God blest us with a beauteous flower,
As frail as it was wonderous
fair;
And how we loved the gift each hour
Of its brief life will witness
bear.
But, oh! Too well we loved the boon,
Forgetting Him by whom 'twas
given,
And God to win our hears thus noon,
Has raised the flower from
earth to Heaven.
